About Hoar Cross

Hoar Cross is a small village and civil parish in East Staffordshire, set among the woods and farmland of the former Needwood Forest between Yoxall and Newborough. It is famous for the Church of the Holy Angels, built in 1872-76 by the architect G. F. Bodley for Emily Meynell Ingram in memory of her husband; it is regarded as one of the finest Victorian Gothic Revival churches in England and is Grade I listed. Hoar Cross Hall, the Meynell Ingram family's Elizabethan-style mansion of the 1860s, is now a large spa hotel and resort. The ecclesiastical parish was formed in 1874 from parts of Yoxall, Abbots Bromley and Hamstall Ridware, and the civil parish remains sparsely populated, with a pub, scattered cottages and estate farms.

What's the difference between hardwood and softwood logs?

Softwood logs burn much more quickly as they are from fast growing species of trees. The wood is less dense, contains less fuel, leading to a hot, but short burn.

Hardwood logs are from slower growing species of trees such as Ash, Oak, Beech etc. The wood is denser, contains more fuel, and as such burns longer and hotter. We make sure that we select the best quality hardwood logs for our firewood, to guarantee a warm home.

About Our Firewood

We are a small family business based in Anslow, just outside Burton upon Trent. We take pride in both the service we provide, and the quality of our firewood.

We source our hardwood from UK woodlands. All the wood we use is removed as part of forestry management and we try our best to source only local timber. We do not offer softwood firewood.

We season our wood naturally, it is not kiln dried and as such has a lower carbon footprint. Find out more about why we naturally season our wood.
