About Foston and Scropton

Foston and Scropton is a civil parish in the Dove valley in South Derbyshire, combining the village of Scropton with the hamlet of Foston to its north. Scropton was recorded in the Domesday Book as the largest of the manors held by Henry de Ferrers in Derbyshire, and its church of St Paul, rebuilt in 1855-56 by the Gothic Revival architect Benjamin Ferrey, contains late medieval monuments to the Agard family. Foston Hall, once a country house, has been a women's prison since 1953. The parish's economy is dominated by large employers, including a major turkey processing plant at Scropton and the JCB Power Systems engine works and a large dairy at Foston. Its population was 854 at the 2011 census.

What's the difference between hardwood and softwood logs?

Softwood logs burn much more quickly as they are from fast growing species of trees. The wood is less dense, contains less fuel, leading to a hot, but short burn.

Hardwood logs are from slower growing species of trees such as Ash, Oak, Beech etc. The wood is denser, contains more fuel, and as such burns longer and hotter. We make sure that we select the best quality hardwood logs for our firewood, to guarantee a warm home.

About Our Firewood

We are a small family business based in Anslow, just outside Burton upon Trent. We take pride in both the service we provide, and the quality of our firewood.

We source our hardwood from UK woodlands. All the wood we use is removed as part of forestry management and we try our best to source only local timber. We do not offer softwood firewood.

We season our wood naturally, it is not kiln dried and as such has a lower carbon footprint. Find out more about why we naturally season our wood.
